'88 560 SL occasional engine cut out.....
I have an '88 560 SL..with 42,000 actual miles....one owner...service records continually updated as per recommendation.....now for the problems!!!! the engine occasionally just quits when restarted, after reaching normal operating temperature..usually...for instance....when running errands and getting back in..starting and preparing to pull out...yesterday while driving at about 50 mph it momentarily cut out once and instantly resumed as normal....my questions???...crank sensor? does it even have one ..I haven't had time to look??? possible dead, or weak plug?...plug wires?? its DOES have a slight uneven idle!!!! but smooth and still responsive...one of the two fuel pumps failing?...fuel injection issue??? vacuum issue possibly? I am VERY pleased with this car...have only owned it since April of this year and I have other cars that require extensive service!!! I bought this car, due to its low mileage and my understanding that they were extremely reliable...I've done many little things to preserve and protect it and am trying to make it dead solid reliable....My only concerns are its age and lack of use...which is also a problem....and I've realized that actual paper manuals are very, very diffucult to find for this last series...I'm assuming they were a compliation of early manuals with updates as per year instead of a reissued series....any advice and help is GREATLY appreciated...Thanks...
