380 SL 1985
I just told a friend that I would put a fuel pump and an antenna on his
85 380 sL. It looks stright forward. What should I know ? I work on my own 62 Corvette. I saw were some one asked about bleeding the pressuer off? Do I need to do that ? How ? Do I have to prime the new one??? Thanks for any help. He had been told this would be around $700. I found the parts on e-bay for less than $200. I will not charge him for laybor. |
RE: 380 SL 1985
don't worry, you can do it.
no bleeding, no priming. just crank a bit longer for the pressure to build up. |

RE: 380 SL 1985
I replaced the pump tonight . But I can't get it to stop leaking. I reused the two metal washers. The new one had no washers.. Can I buy new ones? What do I ask for? Can i use a sealer?? What kind???? Thanks!!!!!!

new aluminum or copper washers are always together with the new pump. if not, you have to get and replace them all.
no sealant can hold that pressure. |
RE: 380 SL 1985
It's best to find new washers for the banjo fitting but if the old ones are not too compressed you can reuse them. Lay a piece of fine sand paper, something like 400 grit, on a flat surface and rub the washer on it lightly with your finger. It's soft and you don't need to take off much-- you are just trying to take off the ridges and get smooth, flat, parallel surfaces.
