2003 sl500 sound stopped working.

Hi everyone, the other day my sound just spontaneously stopped working in my sl. Everything else is fine including the radio and the navigation cd when i put a normal cd in the navigation drive i see the time counting off like the cd is playing but for some reason the message is not getting to my speakers. One other thing that doesn't appear to be loading is my 5 disc cd changer. This was not a gradual error it literally all happened at once 2 days ago so i know its not a blown speaker or a loose cable or something. Any help would be greatful so i dont have to go to the dealership and pay however many hundreds for 5 dollars worth of work.

could this be a fuse problem?

Yes, Don. Check the fuse for the audio system amplifier (picture).

how can i tell if the fuse is bad?

Fuse checking

You can tell if the fuse is open by looking but it is not foolproof, the best way is with a continutiy checker like on Ohmmeter or a test light. The idea is to see if the circut is complete when you put the fuse in series with the Ohmmeter or the test light. If the Ohmmeter or test light work when you put it in series with fuse, the fuse is good and you have in effect a dead short, if it does not, you have an open circut with the fuse being the open part. bobterry99: I have a 1995 SL500 and seem to have a similar problem. Is that fuze display you show under the back seat? Also, my antennae no longer comes up...this happened all of a sudden just a couple of days ago. Thank you, in advance, for any help........<95_SL500>
