Would you guys consider buying a 03 SL 500? Consumer reports called it the most unreliable car in 2003. Also can you recommend a good warranty for this car if the factory warranty has expired.

JD power says otherwise. But it doesn't really matter. you can only know why someone would buy a 03 sl by driving one. The love begins there.

 

just bought one 2 months ago 32000k miles fixed a few thingslike turn signal ,a/c leak,leak at tranny sensor,greased roof pins,thats about it ,it runs great did the 'b' service seems ok good luck!

 

I just bought one with 62,000 on it. I am very impressed with the vehicle but my wife and I are going to buy the extended warranty. Though at 5 years old and 62k I would think a lot of the little gotcha's have already been fixed.

I bought an 2003 SL500 last August and absolutely LOVE it. Best car i have ever owned! I bought a GE full warranty with it and am glad I did, I had a few small problems, covered by the warranty, like a motor in the power roof, tire pressure monitors and a burned out wiring harness. Well worth it, $50 deductible. Great car, great warranty.

 

I agree with everyone that it is a very reliable car. I bought my car 4 months ago from a MB dealer and was a CPO car so it came with a 1yr. 0 deductable through MB. I purchased 2 more yrs as well through MB. I had the same concerns as you do, but when you drive one you will be hooked. Good luck on on decision.

 

I'm with the OP - would love to buy a 03 Sl500 but scared of the impending repairs. I have no problem buying an extended warranty for peace of mind, but what companies are trustworthy? I've been searching this forum and found - 1sourceautowarranty and warrantydirect.

I've reading the fine print on warrantydirect but not getting a warm/fuzzy feeling from the electronics section. What if there are 'magical' parts not listed that fail. Still doing research and hoping I can find answers.

 

get a warranty !!!! just blew $ 7000.00 on 03 w/ 36k on it !!!

 

Thanks for the heads up! I am out of the SL500 market for now - only to return years from now. I have invested most of my money in a house - but thanks for all the help.
