Does my new-to-me 1998 SL500 call for synthetic oil? Did it come with synthitic oil in it from the factory? What oil should I be using if I do not use Mercedes brand oil? I have all the manuals and books, but no receipts and I cannot find the recommended oil. What DOT of brake fluid does it call for? I know most people think it is important to use only Mercedes anti-freeze, is this correct? Where do I find all of this information on engine oil, antifreeze, brake fluid, transmission fluid, etc. for all my fluids? It may be in one of my manuals and I have not looked close enough. Please advise. Thanks.

 

all 98 and newer mercedes use synthetic oils - hence them going 10-15k miles between changes. some dealers use mobil 1 0w40. brake fluid is dot4 plus. i have seen no problem with anti-freeze that's not mercedes. all this info. should be i the owners manuals.
