RE: 1995 600sl soft top
Craig,
The top does need hydraulic fluid to operate. You can check the level in the system by looking at the fluid cannister/pump marks on the pump located in the trunk below the spare tire. Q: Did the top control button flash or blinkwhen you tried to engage the system? Bob |

:)Bobthanks for the quick response
I checked under the tire and it seemed empty for sure also my wife said there was some fluid coming out near the sun visors What to do is the question- Thanks for your helpbest regards Craig |
RE: 1995 600sl soft top
Craig,
The fluid leaks by the visors mean the seals in the two hydraulic cylinders that latch/unlatch the front catches are toast. The repair is relatively simple and detailed here... http://www.mercedesshop.com/Wikka/R129TopRelease The cylinders can be rebuilt and fitted with new seals for about 1/3 the cost of buying new ones ($40@ vs. $120@) through... Mercedes Hydraulic Cylinder RebuilderDennis Ficken 16285 S. Chester Olathe, Ks 66062 (913) 390-0506 mercedescylinders@sbcglobal.net If the pump reservoir was near empty, you will also need 2 bottles of hydraulic fluid, either MB branded ($$) or Febi/Bilstien p/n 02615 Fluid (same stuff at half the price) from www.autohausaz.com , as well as others. Good Luck, Bob |
