Has anyone any advice on best sizes to go for when changing from the standard 8J x 16 ET34 rims ? I dont want to modify the bodywork. I had a bad experience with a W124 that had a wheel upgrade and always made wheel arch contact when manovering at low speeds.

 

I have a later SL that came with 17" as standard - in the handbook there are recommendations (AMG) for wheel sizes at 18".

 

Thanks for that stats007 I have put 17 " Merc wheels on it with no body fouling problems. You are right about the 18 " AMG wheels for the R129 but the fitting brochure says modification may be required to the bodywork so I settled for 17".
