Tech said I have a leak in my transmission oil pan suggested I change filter oil seal and pan I have never experienced anything like this oil shop said changing the transmission oil is not a good idea what do you guy think?

 

Not only is changing the transmission oil a good idea, you should also consider a complete transmission flush when it is due. In my case it includes the transmission cooler, the clutch, and filters, so there is not one drop of the old oil left and any sediment is gone as well. I have a '97 S420 with 260k miles on it and the transmission has never had to be repaired. My car drives like a dream and when it is time to go fast it does without hesitation though I don't do that very often.

ForcedInduction is absolutely correct. Not only should they not be given money, they shouldn't be allowed to touch things with moving parts or sharp objects. Put as much distance between your car and that bad advice as you can and then keep it that way. Don't even drive down the street where that shop is located.

Thanks I will take your advise with 98,000 miles only seems logical just hoping the transmission doesnt need extra work besides the standard MB transmission oil filter pan seal.The transmission sometimes shifts to 1 when driving uphill is that normal this 550 transmission (shifter) is tricky to get use to and not too user friendly previous 430 transmission never did that I am assuming that I have to constantly eyeball the dash board to see exacty what gear the car is in this little control shifter and New age transmission could end up costly? Checking for warranty from MB dealership?
