never had that problem with the Benz, but the Infiniti did. Try turning the steering wheel in both directions while applying the brake, than shift.

try and fill if the gear lever clikcs when foot brake is applied, if you can fill the click then your brake switch is ok,it will possibly require slector module its not a cheap part it can only be done by mb due to programming.....

My S55 had the same problem, when i disconected the battery,(assuming that your gearshift is similar to my S55)turns out that sometimes if the batery drops below 11volts, or disconection the electronic gear levermodule goes to sleep, bit like when you atatch a printer or cam to your computer, you have to tell thecomputer it is there, in a computer you run the hardware wizard,it finds theatatched hardware,it then downloads the drivers from a source, ie disc, O/Sor website. your gearshift module is the same, you need a "star computer" MB dealership plugged into your OBD2 socket to download the driver to wake up the selector module, this thenactivates a solonoid which pushes a lever to disengage the locking mechanism in park. process is only about 5 minutes, i know because I bought the computer off ebay and did it myself. Of course the module could be faulty, the Star will tell you that also, but here in the UK you have to buy the whole gear lever mechanism, it's a big con as the lever is built so well it should never go, the module is a small printed circuit board, atatched to the side of the lever, the cost here was about £400.00 double that for the US $ hope this helps.
