New member needs advice

I have a 1982 500 SEL w/new engine. I bought it in Euro in 1985. I put 226,700 miles on it, mostly CA freeways. It was in good enough condition (with a new tranny) that I had the engine rebuilt at a cost of over $8,000 (I have all the receipts) prior to giving it to my son. He joined the Navy and the Merz has sat in my garage ever since. It now has 230, 500 miles on it. I took it out once in a while for exercise. In 2007 it failed a smog test because the catalytic convertor went out and I got a non-op on it until my son decided what he wanted to do with it. I still took it around the block once in a while to let it run. Last month it failed to start. I think it is the fuel pump. I am moving and my son asked me to find it a new home. I'm thinking it will take about $500 to get it back on the street...but then, what is it worth..A local wrecking yard offered me $600 for it but I can hardly bear the thought.. It is light blue-grey, nice paint, window tinting, no dings, no leaks, new Michelins with BBS wheels, located in So CA..What would you advise?..I appreciate your help...

for junkyards, the w126 is a gold mine. They offer a low price, like $600, for example, to owners who are ready call it a day and usually they sell. Then the car get to the yard, and they make their money back twice over in a few parts.

Go ahead and drop $500 into it and get it running. Especially if there are no ther problems. It could be fuel pump or the relay. Both of those are really dotn cost much and easy to replace by any DIYer with a screwdriver and a beer.
