I disconnected the negative terminal on the car battery. Now the central locking buttons dont work on my keyfob. Would this have reset when I disconnected the battery? Does the car not recognise the key? Do I have to get it recoded?

Or is it complete coincidence and its something else?!!

You dont say what model or year your car is, but you should not need to re-code the keys just because you disconected the battery. It is more likley something else in the car or a dead battery in the key. Also what type of key it is? I have disconected the bettery lead on aw203 C-class several times, reconect it and the key works fine. If you have more thanone key try the other.
