I just bought a 1986 mercedes 300 sdl with 142500 miles and no rust.paid 3000.00 did i pay to much?

 

how can i tell if the cylinder head is cracked?what signs do i look for?all that i can tell it needs is new glow plugs in cylinders 2 and 4.

 

it use to belong to Dr joseph f hanna from huntington wv.he died in a helicopter crash out in arizona a few years ago.he was well known around here.

 

sounds like a good deal,,,,if it runs good it is.we (my son and i)picked up 3 sdl to make 2 good ones.we have one with 101k on it and needed a tranny and one with 135k with a blown motor.they are great riding and fast for diesels.good luck

 

how do i check the power stearing fluid ?also there is a black dial under the hood numbered 1-7 it is behind the fuse box, what does it do? do i have to us MB power steering fluid or is there another brand i can use?can anyone recomend a good brand of glow plug?are beru plugs any good?

I just went to look at a 1981 300d .it was BAD,all 5 injectors leaked ,every thing from the injectors down was soaked in diesal fuel.the fuel smell would almost knock you out.had big rust holes,and the rats nests ,lots of nests.had 172000 miles on the old 5 clylinder.anyone interested for 1500?it is in kentucky if you want the phone number i will post it ,might be good for parts.
