Default 2000 s430 power loss

I washed my car today, and as I was leaving the aoutomated wash the car stopped running. It started right up again though. Then as I was coming home from work five hours later, the car was working fine. About thirty minutes into my trip home I stopped at a traffic light and the car stopped running. It took several attempts to get it started. Finally, I pressed the accelerator along with turning the key and it started. this never happend before. The car has 75k miles on it. Any suggestions?
Thanks

99% chance that it is the crankshaft position sensor. Located on the back of the engine on the driver side, it gets extremely hot and the resistance levels become too high and the car shuts off. Once it cools down a bit, everything is back to normal. The part has been updated a few times and pretty reliable now, should set you back $130-180

Wow, Thank you very much. Is this something I an replace? or do I have to bring it into Mercedes, or can any mechanic replace it? It's definately not spark plugs, or fuel filter?
