Default DIY grease fittings

Hello All:

I'm finally a proud owner of a low mileage 91 560SEL. As I begin to do small DIY maintainence I have a question on grease guns and fittings.

Will any grease gun fit the nipples?

Recommendations on grease? How about going with a synthetic grease?

How many fittings are on the front end?

Thanks and I look forward to hearing from members.

Best Regards,

Lindy

A nipple is a nipple is a nipple, if you look at the end of a grease gun fitting, they are made to fit most nipples, as the inners comform to the size of the nipple. Use whatever grease MB dealer tells U. Can't help U with the number of fittings. But usually the ball joints steering linkage, and place there is one of those rubber boots or where metal to metal contact is made, usually there will be a nipple.

Thanks for responding to my questions.

Does anyone have further thoughts on using synthetic grease...Is grease as grease as grease?

I've heard its works well because it handles heat better, does not break down as much and etc.

Whatever is best.

Syn grease won't do any damage, it will withstand a lot more hit from friction, the petroleum based grease and as long as all the grease boots are intake, I see no reason why not to use it. But I would still grease the car at recommended intervals.
