RE: code P0410 ??

Hi,
Secondary Air Injection is when air is pumped into the exhaust system to assist in getting the catalyst up to temperature quickly (like adding air to a fire) to assist in meeting emmission regulations. No air and the OBD On BoardDiagnostics senses that this system is not functioning correctly.
Pump for seconary air injection is mounted on front of engine (under plastic engine cover which comes off by jerking the cover upwards...i.e. no screw fixings.) and is driven electrically.
Not sure where the fuse for this is...there will be one and it is likely in the engine bay electrics box at the back of the engine bay.
This pump only works under certain conditions i.e. not continuously.

If you can't locate the fuse or loose connection (water ingress etc) I'll try to look up what supply the pump is supposed to be getting and advise. Anybody got WIS up and running?

Stuart

RE: code P0410 ??

Aaargh!
So the pump was making a noise. Sounds like it may have seized.
Not sure who makes the pump (will have logo on it somewhere) but would be surprised if the item were available from anywhere other than MB.
If you are handy pumps like this can be dismantled and cleaned/lubricated etc. so have a go.
Motor will be 12v so give it a bit of power (when disconnected from the vehicle ...back emf could do damage to you ECU etc) and see what happens.
Alternatively a breakersyard will likely have. I guess the pumpo will be semi common across V6/V8 MB power units.

Good luck,

Stuart.
