Check engine Light, 2000 S430
 

Hello everyone. I recently purchased a 2000 S430 (november of 07 to be more specific), but have not driven it much, only on weekends mostly. It has approximately 84K miles on it. Yesterday evening, I took it for a drive and the "check engine" light came on. Can you help me find out as to what would cause the check engine light to come on? Please advise. Thank you for your help, in advance.

any data which is out of tolerance during driving can cause it. did you feel anything unusual before it happens?

fuel injector might get temporary faulty which can cause engine shaking, air mass sensor / wiring can get faulty, etc.

best way is to take it to the dealer's workshop to check the fault code.

84k in a year!!

Get the OBD codes read with a scanner.
This is the starting point.
Could be many things but most likely the MAF. However do not change without getting the codes.
Come back with the codes.
