A/C blowing hot air from far R/L side vents

A/C blowing hot air from far R/L side vents
96 S320
What might be the culprit, if when the a/c isON, hot air comes out the side R/L vents, but the center vents are cold. For now I just close them, but I want to fix the problem, any ideas whatmight be causing this. I am new here and I know little about the car's a/c features, so any info will be appreciated.
