I am looking to buy a car and it is a toss up between the S500 2001 and the Lexus LS 430 2001.
I have been told that the S500 of the years between 2000 to 2004 gives a lot of trouble. Is that true and which is more reliable, the LS430 or the S500?

Any information would be much appreciated.

i have owned both before...if you want no maintenance, buy the Lexus ( i have owned 4 of them with suprises at all). Lexus's ride is boring. S is always more a MB experience that you have a car that you're pround of, but costly to keep. There are some good ones out there, it took me 3 months and more than 2000 miles of shopping to find my currrent one 2003 S500. Maintenance records is the key... hope this keep/ good luck

 

Thanks a lot. Where I live in Canada, there are no indy shops or even a dealer close by. The local garages would not touch most of the foreign cars. So I guess it has to be the Lexus as maintenance would be a problem.
