I have a 2001 s500 with 141K miles on it. The battery is only about a year old and it is haing the following symptoms: BTW, I just had the dash illumination replaced under warrantee.

sluggish starts, command/radio volume will sometimes not come on and have to restart car to activate.

A clue to me is that the voltage must be reading low on the command upon start to dissable it?

The question is, could this be an alternator issue? If so is that a user repaceable item on this car? I have put in alternators before, but on older cars.
