Default 560 SEL engine question

Earlier this week I purchased a 1990 560 SEL with 129,000 miles and flew to Dayton, OH to retieve it and drove it back to Virginia the next day. I noticed that when I would stop at a rest area or convenience store for coffee and allow it to idle for a few minutes to recover from highway speeds before I shut her down that......upon my return she would fire right up, however, after I backed out of the parking space and accelerated she would produce a cloud of smoke (oil) from the exhaust and as quick as it occurred, it would stop. I did not use any appreciable amount of oil (less than a fourth of a quart) in the 500 miles I drove that day.

My question is, would it appear that I have worn valve guides or do I need to address another problem? By the way, I also own a 1997 Deville and as far as I am concerned the Cadillac can stay in my driveway. What a beautiful riding car this 560 is!

I want to thank all in advance for your response.

Respectfully,

Gary

Default RE: 560 SEL engine question

white smoke is oil burning.

it can be from valve guides, valve seals, or piston rings.

doing a dry and wet compression check can identify the source better.
