300SE 1990 will not reverse
Our 1990 300SE with 184K, which I have had 15 years, will go forward, but will not shift into reverse. Our mechanic wants to rebuild the transmission at his shop. Has anyone had a similar problem? Is it better to put in a rebuilt transmission, rather than have someone rebuild the transmission in the shop?
I am in the Chicago area. Anyone had expreience with shops in the area they would recommend for such a repair? |
RE: 300SE 1990 will not reverse
For some reasons the only rebuild I've heard about with good quality come from German mechanics, that immigrated to US.
No US-trained mechanic have heard about lubricating the door hinges, if you know what I mean. What is the warranty your mechanic would give you? |
RE: 300SE 1990 will not reverse
no major problem on it. it's just a worn out internal discs.
also it is located on the front part of the transmission. any mechanic who got good experience in automatic transmission can do it. |
RE: 300SE 1990 will not reverse
The mechanic said they would warrant it for 12 month. To be done by a Mecedes trained master mechanic.

RE: 300SE 1990 will not reverse
I had a trans problem a few years ago with my 1990 300E and i took it to an older german guy. He fixed it quick and ran smooth the rest of the time i had it. His shop and address. He was reasonably priced but this was about 4 years ago and since ur in the chicago area call him and see what kind of warranty and price he might offer.

RE: 300SE 1990 will not reverse
Quick question...does anyone know how long a rebuilt tranny usually last? I'm thinking about getting one for my '90 MB 300 SEL. My tranny is having trouble shifting gears when I first start the car in the morning.
Any thoughts on this? MM |
