Default command navigation cd upgrade?

I have a 2001 S430 and I want to upgrade the navigation system with newer version cd's. Current ones are from 2000, and many roads/areas/points have been added. Is it possible to purchase newer ones and install or are there compatibility issues between different years, and even models of vehicles? If I can purchase newer version cd and install, any recommendations on where to get them? Thanks

There are updated disks that you can buy at the dealer about 150 bucks.

I never received an answer on this forum, and after waiting I went to the parts manager at my dealer to get the low down. Before they were too busy to give me an answer. Anyway he said that 2001 S430 use the CD D version of disks. He said you can just put in the newer CD and it should work, no software upgrade is required for the vehicle. I then received a 2004 CD (had the original 2001 ones) popped it in and after one false try, it read the new CD and things are good.
The dealer here only has the 2008 version for sale, and I was tempted to buy the package for about $300 CDN and sell the rest on ebay or this forum. The set has only 1 CD for Canada and the other 9 are for the US. But I am checking when the 2009 or 2010 version may come out as the parts man explained the 2008 is really 2007 information!
Hope this helps, Donald

One other point, I searched the internet and mainly there were CD for sale on ebay. Pronto was useless, as were most of the other links for command cds. However on ebay most were as old as what I have 2000 or 2001. The newest I saw was 2004. Prices ranged from 35 to 75 USD for each disk, but again they were 2001 or older! Once I get a new set, I will sell the other new and old ones on ebay.
Cheers, Donald

Default nav CD upgrade

I have a 2000 s430 and I purchased a 2009 upgrade at the MBZ dealer for $150. Works great. Set contains 11 cds covering entire North America. Email me at jim.daisa@kimley-horn.com if you have any questions.

Thanks Jim for the information. As usual the dealers charge the northerners far more as my price works out to $240 US! I will check about ordering through the US as shipping can not be all that expensive...well we are in the far north!
Cheers, Donald
