1995 S500 Coupe

Hi all this is my first post to this forum so if it is in the wrong place feel free to delete it or tow it.

I am looking at buying a 1995 MB S500 coupe for a little under $19k with 71.5K miles. It is in beautiful condition. I do not know a lot about this particular Merc so I am wondering if it will give me a lot of trouble. I know they were very expensive new so would they be a lot to fix? What should I look for when buying one? Should I worry about things breaking or is it a pretty solid car? I have had a BMW 840ci in the past and I know mine was very expensive to fix and was slightly problem-matic.

Let me know what you guys think,

Thanks

The s500 coupe is a 140 chassis which are known to be problematic. I find that if they are well maintained they will be a fairly reliable car. The 140 chassis coupe will be fairly expensive to maintain probably compairable to your 840. Mechanical parts will be shared with the sedan and are reasonable in price. Coupe only parts are pretty expensive. have the wiring harness inspected both @ the throttle acuator and at various places along the engine compartment I am not sure if that one will still fall into the harness problem years or not. I have a 94 v12 at the shop with harness problems and it can get expensive.

BlazinBFW,

I've had two of these, a 99 cl500 and a 95 S500 like what you are looking at. First let me say that a love the style of those years in the coupe, the two that I had I bought with low miles and from original owners (the '95 only had 25k when I bought it). Now, I had nothing but maintance issues with both of them, motor mounts, countless electrical problems, etc.. They nickel and dimed my to death (those nickel and dimes are hundreds and thousands) I personally would stay away from it, but if it's what you have your heart set on get it but be sure to get a in depth inspection done first..............
Hope this helps, Pusher......
