The R500 looks like a great vehicle and its 5.0L V8 is impressive.

I been seeing a lot of R-classes lately and the more I see em, the more i notice that it's screaming Pacifica in a tux. Has Mercedes lowered themselves by raiding or sharing parts with Chrysler?

When I went to the dealer a couple months back to look at them the Dealer swore up and down that it had nothing in common with the Pacifica but i am still not sure. I plan to look at the two of them closer in the next time i go out looking.

Well the dealer might just be right, in some way in this case. The R-class is built on the M-class frame, but it just look like they took the pacifica design and threw Mercedes Badges all over it.

Once the 3.0L V6 diesel goes in this thing, it just might be my next car. With diesel, this may get over 30 mpg on the highway, and average 28 (if I did the conversions right from the Euro spec'd model that already has this engine).

i just test drove one and my first impressions were not good. at first glance i thought it was a B class then i realized it was too big. after getting in it, it didn't really feel like a mercedes; the steering wheel felt insubstantial and the door panels scream "chrysler!". while driving it i really started to think that this was a chrysler mini-van. it even sounded like one. if i buy an SUV i think i am going with the porsche cayenne. it is cheaper, faster and nicer looking than the benz.
