Default Major Service?

Own a 2006 R350, original owner. Have reached 65k with no major issues, other than those previously handled under warranty.
Shifted the maintenance away from the dealer due to service costs, to a local shop of strong reputation. They're pushing for a "60K Major", claiming that MB minor service intervals are inadequate to avoid unncessary, expensive breakdowns.
65K service is a minor service + fuel filter; dealer quoted $350. Major at the private shop is $1,100!
Anyone have any insight into the validity of the shop's claim regarding a major service this early?

Default 65K Service

first i do not think the filter needs replacement because i think there is no external fuel filter. believe its in side tank believe its life time . i could be wrong . we would do oil change, look @ air filters, cabin filters, check/change brake fluid, then check car over from front to back. would start @ $ 125.00 then if filters would go up . air filters $ 51.00, cabin filter $ 62.00, brake fluid change $ 75.00, check out of car included

Let me think. Who knows the car best? What company built it? The local who wants a wad of money or the dealer with a standard price for an "A" service?
I vote for the dealer (cough) this time around. Find a new independent with a brain. What 'preventative ' maintenance do you get for $1100. Even the delaer doesn't charge that much for a "B" service.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
