Transmission anyone?? HELP!!
Hello,my brother in law has a 2002 ML 320. apparently the transmission went into "limp mode". he took it to the dealer and they said it was a speed sensor was bad. they estimated about $1,200 to change it. The real kicker is they recomended changing the whole transmission, which they quoted $10,000!!! (because the transmission'sfluid was burnt).
Anyhow is it worth it for him to chsnge the sensor at a transmission place where it may be cheaper? does anyone know wheere to get the part or would it be dealer only? Is it an external part or internal? Or should he just buy a used transmission? if so where to get one? Please help. He can't afford to spend $10,000.
Thank youy so much for any help for him.
