SPARK PLUG REPLACEMENT INTERVAL...?
I just bought an '03 ML350 w/ 65k on the clock, and the local MB dealer said the plugs needed to be replaced @ 60k and on his records they werent done... is he BSing me or what???
What mileage does MB reccomend to replace the plugs?

If you don't have a maintence record showing they were replaced, I would play it safe & replace them. The cost is not that big of a deal, is it?

the reason its so expensive is because each cylinder has 2 plugs and they are bosch platinum ( almost 20 dollars a piece ) bosch says they are 100k plugs but thats only under certain conditions. mercedes manuals say 100k because of bosch's claim but most dealerships recommened at 60k because we run into missfire problems when people try stretching it to 100k. i think it has to do with people not using the recommened fuel octane all the time or sometimes another problem such as bad o2 or air mass will cause the vehicle to run exessivly rich and building carbon on the plugs. as a mb tech i would recommend doing them.
OK let me clear things up. no you don't have to replaced your plugs every year sorry sleepwalker but your wrong not on cars with fss system. OK now some cars we do recommend replacing out plugs at 100k not all of them i think its like the 4 cylinders(big marketing ploy) some cars its 65k some its 75k others and still others its 90k. there is a service sheet that the dealers have for every car that they fill out when they do a service on your car. on the back of that sheet there is a check list of all the service that they performed on your car and there is a list of factory recommended service that is recommended due to millage. don't go by what the dealer recommends but go by what Mercedes recommends for the service intervals of your plugs. also we don't recommend plugs for your car misfiring cause its not the plugs that really go bad as often is it is the plug wires. the bad news about that is that plug wires are more expensive than plugs are at about 32 bucks each. my recommendation to you is wait till your car is misfiring and have the plug wires and the plugs replace all at once. labor to replace plugs and plug wire ends are about 3.2 hours
it alright vytamenc.
i always value your advises and they are very helpful.
he can however wait for 4 years if he didn't reach 100k, according to his assyst sheet
