Default Power Steering

I had my car serviced on Friday (Service A), went home parked my car and when I took it out the next day - the power steering locked on me in the middle of the road. I opened the hood and there was fluid sprayed all over the front grill. Someone who helped me said there was a value in the front that was not shut - the cap was barely on.

I had my car towed into the dealership and they said nothing they did would have caused the power steering hose to fall off. It just feel off. He said there was no way to detect that problem during regular maintenance service (even though they checked all parts of the car to make sure there was no problem).

Now i have to pay for the power steering hose to the replaced ($350) - can someone help me out here - doesn't sound right at all. My car was working absolutely fine before I took it in for the service. If the hose was going to pop - wouldn't it be lose or worn or something??? HELPPP!!!

Hi,
You should blame the dealer for this, you have got you ML serviced yesterday and next day you got this problem. Actually figure out if the pipe is broke or something was left open which let all the fluids drain. If something was left open then they are responsible for that. Otherwise you were out of luck.

Yes Bluefin there was infact a recall on the hose and I actually found some information about it on this forum and called the dealer - guess what? THEY REPAIRED IT FOR FREE...I guess being educated when talking to these cheating dealers helps! This forum has really helped me on multiple occasions (though I am never buying a ML again - I am disappointed at the number of problems it has - I expected better from mercedes)

So. What happened?

I have not heard of this power-steering hose recall. I was at the dealer yesterday enquiring about the harmonic balance recall. I asked If there were others I had missed and he said no. I guess I'll check tomorrow when I take it in. Anyone know the number of this recall?
