NL430 middle shift moving without key

NL430 middle shift moving without key
MY 1999 ML430 was able to move from park to reverse by a little bump against it. sending my car rolling in reverse. after this happening we move the gear back to park. and then again to drive all with out the key in the ignition or foot on brake. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE.. mercedes is saying belt broke what belt?
