Default Nav. System

I have a 2001 ML320 and it has the full screen with the buttons for the Navigation System, but behind the display there is no place to put the CD. Can anyone direct me to a website to buy the parts needed to insert the CD that will not rip me off like the dealership.

Look on ebay. For the CD version you need a BN5110 drive or you can go with the DVD drive BN5210 if you would rather have DVD. DVD will run you about $700 or so whereas the CD will run about $550 (from looking at past auctions and selling and buying one myself a few weeks ago). The CD version will require you to also buy the CD for whatever regional area you live in (there are 10 CDs for the whole USA and Canada) whereas the DVD version only uses 1 dvd for the whole area. It is rumored that they are going to stop updating the CD version at some time. Currently the newest CD set is 2004.1 but the DVD has a 2005.1 out, so they may have already done this. If you have a 2001 I think you will also need an antenna and splitter and cable. 2002 and newer had these pre-wired even with no Nav. Alternatively mbdoctor.com will sell you the whole kit with instructions for about the same price as ebay I think. Email him to be sure. Installation of the drive itself is a cinch, but not sure about the antenna, splitter and such. Once installed you will also have to go by the dealer and let them change your AAM computer to make it work, but many dealers will not even charge to do this or else charge the minimum 15 minute labor charge.

Excuse me if this sounds stupid. I just got my first mercedes yesterday. It is a 01 ML320 with the MCS and six disc cd changer. When I press the Nav button. It says Nav system not installed. Is that because I dont have the cd or because I am missing a component?

You're missing the nav component of the MCS. '01 320's did not come with NAV as standard equipment, but they do have the MCS system which can have the NAV added to it. So, really all you would need is the drive itself (see my post above), the antennas, splitters, and a map disk (cd or dvd depenging on which drive you get). mbdoctor dot com sells the whole assemblies for about the same price you can round them all up for separately on ebay, plus has detailed instructions or so I hear to make the install a cinch.

I like to buy a Navigation System. I've try to get the local MB dealer to tell methe model number that I need. He would NOT divulge the information, telling me that this was private! Could anyone tell me, please? I have the same problem as WildMB above. My is a 2002 ML-320 and I am not sure if the only unit I need is the DVD Nav for the ML Drive Model BN5210. Since I already have the radio, cd and cassette player: But "No Nav install error."
Is the display color or B/W for the 2002's?
