Must I get the service @ dealer for...?

Hi, all ;)

Great forum here. My situation is: My M320 is going in for 60,000mile service B, and the lady from the dealer tells me that I need air filter and fuel filter changed and it will cost me about $450+.[&:] I told her to hold on that and do just service B only which will still cost me over $300.

My question is: Do I have to change air filer and fuel filter at the dealer or is that something I can go to other cheaper local shop to do it or DIY job? I am familiar working on the car and used change air, oil filter by myself when I had other older cars but I don't know about this one.

Thanks in advance. :)

If you have the tools (my SLK needed a torques bit socket, we have the same engine), you can change the intake air filter yourself for the price of the parts. The cabin air filter may need changing now as well. An easy job. I would hav a professional change the fuel filter do to difficulty reaching it since it is near the fuel tank in most MB vehicles. Hope this helps.

Have a mechanic do the fuel filter, not worth the trouble. The part is very expensive.
The air/engine filter is easy. The cabin filter is behind the glovebox in the dash. Its not that easy to do, if you are patient maybe you will be ok. Can't hurt to try.
Members here have posted directions for doing averything on the vehicle, just look around ou should find the info. Good Luck
