99 ML320 Shifter Shutter Replacement
Can anyone give step by step instructions on how to access the "Shutter" on the transmission shifter?
I'm a newbie on anything to do with the shifter. I just learned that"shutter" is the official name for the device that covers the slot around the shifter lever.
I got the shifter **** and some trim pieces off no problem. If I need to remove the console, I know I can remove the screws from the storage box under the armrest, remove the storage box, and remove some screws from under the storage box. I don't know how to remove the front part of the console from wherever it is attached (or even if that would help me access the shutter). So I thought I'd stop before I broke something, and ask for help. -- Thanks!!

This looks like it might help even if it is not exactly like the one you have. I would appreciate hearing back from you if you tackle this and have success or tips to share.
Good luck.

Still not fixed
I gave up on it. Still have the shutter in the glove box. Both the dealer and my non-dealer Mercedes certified mechanic said you pretty much should wait until you have to work on the transmission. Seems like you might have to do this from below on the 1998-1999 models.
