ml320 gas tank sending unit

Hi everyone, new to this site and have a problem. 2000 ml 320,filled gas tank full one day drove a few miles home, got in car next morning and noticed gas guage read half full, so i wanted to accuse kids of somehow opening the gas cap and siphoning gas. after i calmed down, went to gas station and refilled the tank full. barely took a gallon, and the gauge was still at half full. drove around for 30 miles the gauge dropped from 1/2 to 1/4 low fuel light went on
then off but it now reads dead empty and the light is off. I am assuming that it must be the gauge sending unit in the gas tank. My question is, does anyone know how easy is it to replace ? Second question is, is the sending unit part of the fuel pump? Thanks Bob

I am having the same problem with mine. I tried changing the fuse and thought it worked but the next time I filled my tank the fuel level indicator began to drop a couple minutes after pulling out of the gas station. That was 4 months ago. I've tried several different types of fuel treatments since then, but thats it. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I did notice however that two times after I had to jump start my car, the level indicator shot back up to full and it was a while before it gave me problems again. I haven't looked into it further, but could it hurt for you to try and see if it fixes it? Even if it is only temporary, at least we will have an idea as to what is causing this issue..;)
