Default 98ML320 - Radio malfunction

Does anyone know what the problem might be with my radio? It was working fine and now I no longer can get AM stations, Weather Mode, nor scan function. I have no long range frequency pick up on the FM channels. The only FM that I pick up is when I am in close distance to a major frequencies. Has the radio gone bad or is there an antenna problem? Any help will be appreciated, thanks.

Check the antenna amplifier connections (ground) under door panel in rear hatch (behind rear license plate underneath the center brake light). Mercedes has repair campaign for it, wire lug installed over the door paint and some W163 radios will loose antenna signal because of it.

Is it necessary to remove the entire rear panel on the inside inorder to access it? Or is it accessed from the outside near the license plate?

Yes, you need to remove the plastic panel with about same procedure as removing any door panel.
