Just Bought a 99 ML320
Got the wife a car she has been wanting. I have a couple questions. First, the dealer I got it from put a blend oil in it. I picked up the full sythetic today. Do I need to change the oil filter also?? Is there anything I have to reset after I put in the oil in or can I just drain and refill, do not want to screw up the service computer?? Service B was done at 49,000 miles... I have 52,000 on it now.. 8200 miles till next service... but I want to replace that blend oil..Second are there any special tools needed to do oil changes?? Third, any advice to watch for with this car??? it only has 52K and was real clean and looked solid so I bought it.. Any in-put would be greatly appreciated...
Those cars originally did allow using regular oil in it, but later someone made a class action and they switched to synthetic.
Sounds like yours might have only couple thousands on the blend, so replacing it so soon might be a waste. I would drive it for another 3000 miles, before replacing. No special tools required. There is procedure listed on this forum how to zero service computer.
My wife's ML gives us on the average 13,000 miles between service.
Enjoy.

Thanks for the info, The blend is new from the dealer I got it from. My service indicator says I have 8200 miles till service..Will the Blend last me 8200 miles???Also can you tell me about service A and sevice B?? It seems like they do not do much with service A except change the oil.. Dealer wants around $250 for service A and around $750 for service B..What a Joke..Thanks again...
In 1999 service A cost me $45. Now Bay Area dealers charge $110/hr and I've been quoted $170 for replacing light bulb in the cluster.
Looks, that the dealer changed the oil without zeroing the computer.
That can't be a good dealer.

About difference between service A and B. Most of the time, having extended warranty I've been servicing the car at the dealer. What the manual says, the main difference is replacing wipers and adding washing fluid. Maybe more, but most of the stuff is just checking.
The car doesn't require anything serious till 100,000 miles. Just make sure you have good brakes and tires.
Took me 2 days to find replacement tire in Las Vegas. So much for off-road vehicle requiring HR tires.
