I live in a city /suburb with hills and lots of stop signs.
My city mileage is terrible- around 15 mpg
On the highway I get 22 MPg

any tips? I use the middle grade gasoline

 

Hi, My ML350 does alot of coasting down hills and I try to keep the speed to 45MPH on the country roads. Not saying the mileage is that much better than you get, but, my hubby put clean air filter on , hope it improves..... In Ohio the weather is on a warm up soon.... No air on this summer...

 

My car salesman said it was OK to use the middle grade- I'll use premium and see if it helps

 

I'm not sure about 350 engine but since January, I have switched back and fort between the premium 91 and lowest 87 grade that Costco (Amoco) offers.
My car is idling much smoother on 87 octane and I'm getting exact same mileage out of both grades, around 260 miles per 16 gallons of fuel.
Maybe same "engineer" was writing the manual to use the premium only, who also suggested not to change the transmission fluid because it is a lifetime fill !
In my old 280, I could see and feel the gas difference in gasoline grade and in 10 years, I used premium Shell only.

Has anyone used 4x4 adapter to put a stick in a 300SD?
Way back they used to have free-wheeling in some cars.
I drove a 54 ford with free wheeling. I got great MPG.

Anyway back to the stick. In other car, a beetle 1.9 diesel stick, I roll in neutral great distances when traffic is slow. Basically, I idle a lot. It significantly improves MPG. Going 2nd to 5th helps too.

Seems like a 300SD stick could benefit. Plus be a ton of fun.

Yes, a typical Mercedes owner could be also an engineer with higher education and more experienced then any of them working for Mercedes. Why not?

 

Why not send it for dynatuning, you will have better performance and fuel consumption?
