Fuel filler flap won't unlock

Does anybody have any ideas how to unlock the fuel filler flap on a 1999 ML?

From: Daytona Beach

Inside the cargo area, open the cover on the same side as the fuel flap. You can reach up an feel the lock actuator. Pull the rod back and you should be able to get in.

yeah that is probably the only way, I assume you tried the unlock and realize that the fuel filler door is locked with the other doors of the car
