car going backward on ramps.
 

I have automatic 2001 ML 320,

when I stop on Ramps with D gear , cars going backward, like an manual cars.
I should step on to brake at the same time, it's kind a weird, I drive lots of automatic cars I never had that happen before,
Service said it's normal, some heavy cars doing this because of the transmission protection,
is that true? your cars also doing it ?

newer models got SBC now. Sensotronic Brake Control.

it's electrohydraulic system. the more the electronic systems go advanced, the easier to repair these cars.

you can park it on the ramp, and never worry about it. the brake will actuate when the cars sense it's moving... even if you are out there in starbucks.

yes parking is okay, but if I'm driving on uphill with very slow speed, I should hold the brake, otherwise car going backward. it is sometimes makes me nerves on rush traffic.

so I shouldn't worry about this? it's normal?

Thats normal, cars with auto transmission will roll back (if the slope is deep enough) like the manual transmission cars.
When stopping on an uphill, its always better (and safer) to use the brake pedal.
If you are afraid you'll hit the car behind you, step on the brake pedal and gas pedal at the same time, then release the brake pedal slowly as you gently press down the gas pedal (sort of like clutch and gas pedal movement for stick shift)

right. the EGS (trans) control module will allow a slippage of 20 percent on the torque converter to avoid overheating or damage on lockup clutch.

just do what MioCLK says. it's very rare that you stop on the ramp, not unless you live in san francisco?
