Brakes 00 ML430
Hello,
I would like some information on doing a brake job on a 00 ML 430. Where do i resource the info? Is it hard for the do it yourselfer? What is the best brand brake and rotor to use to fix the recurring problem of excessive brake wear? Help! DJ

The only 2 things you may run into doing your own breaks are (1) the rotor is bolted on w/ 1 bolt so you will need an allen wrench to remove, (2) you may need to also replace your sensors, they are very visible when you get into the job and also not really complicated. As for break parts, I suggest you skip what is readily available and shop European sites (see links on the forum home page) the after market breaks available in Europe seem to be superior to anything I have found here in the states!
This is the link I stumbled upon before I tried to do the brakes myself. This one is particularly good for you as it covers the ML55 and the ML55 and ML430 / 500 are very similar, especially in this regard.
Check it out and then go do it yourself. If you know which end is the business end of a screwdriver then you can do this job.

I am using Rotex Gold pads now as they do not squeal or coat the wheel with dark dust, but you can just as easily use the OEM pads buying them at the parts department of any MB dealership.
It is truely the easiest car I have ever owned to change the brakes on. Changing the rotors is a little harder as the old rotors are usually rusted to the spindle and require some force (banging) to get loose.
Check it out and then go do it yourself. If you know which end is the business end of a screwdriver then you can do this job.
