2000 ML55 Rear Brake Problem, new solution?
Hi! I have been going thru all kinds of gyrations trying to fix my wife's ML55 AMG rear brakes; I would like to know of any other
problems or solutions to this problem. I have tried different pads, new rotors, had the new rotors sanded, tried every kind of goop
that was advertised to stop the brake squeak or squeal. Only occurs under very light braking!!! Sounds like a city bus stopping.
I have new Brembo rotors, have tried EBC Red Stuff, Pagid, and now have Wagner Thermo-Quiet pads. No luck so far.
I have taken the car to the dealer who says they can change out everything to MB standard parts, BUT they will not guarantee that
the squeal will disappear and it will only cost me$950.00 to find out. There is no run out on the discs, they are really smooth, and everything is clean and they have all the appropriate paste in all the right locations.
Please respond with how you fixed your brake squeal problem or even if you could not fix it. I would appreciate all feedback.
It would appear that this problem is widespread on MB fixed caliper rears.

I have a 2000 ML55. I have the Brembo drilled, slotted and vented discs with Kelvar pads. I can't remember what internet site I bought them from, but they are quiet, superior stopping and practially dustless. Try the Kelvar pads out.

I have a 2000 ML55, I put the Akebono pads in the front with cross drilled
rotors but the rear pads were not Akebono but some other brand as
Akebono only makes front pads for that car. But both the front and back are
ceramic pads.
There is no squeal per say, but braking is excellent and hardly any black
brake dust.
Sorry, just cannot remember the name for the rear brake pads.

i learned the brakes on the W163 were really poorly engineered in a performance sense and they really don't last that long. After 4 different sets of combinations I decided to upgrade to another brake kit (new rotors, calipers, brake lines, etc.) Email me if you're interested in the kit, I have a contact at the manufacturer that can give us a discount on wholesale purchases.
