Default 1998 ML 320 Climate Control Dash Lights?

I recently had my dash pulled to replace the fan motors, and in the process all the light bulbs replaced.

As I drove away that night, I realized the climate control dials in the center dash were not illuminated. But for the life of me, cannot remember if they ever were.

Can anyone here with a 1998 ML 320 confirm whether the climate control dials are supposed to be lit or not? Thanks!

Yes, they should. One light bulb for all three controls under the center turning ****.
Just replaced mine last week, I used short piece of rubber tubing to get it out and install new one, 12V 1.2W.

Thanks for that. I was almost sure I remembered them being lit. How exactly do you get access to it? Do you pull the radio and storage tray? Or did you go in from the back?

Just pull on the center control ****, it will come straight out (cold/heat setting ****) and the bulb is right under the **** shaft. There is no need for removing enything else.

Bernard, where did you get your replacement bulb? I went by Autozone today and the closest thing they had was a 1.4W bulb without the platic base the one I removed had. Their system did not show they carried a replacement part. Did you get yours from the dealer? Or online?
