My husband and I are looking for a gently used 2007 GL. Debating between a diesel (we have an 85 TD wagon, love it, but its an A to B car, 142k) and the 450. We are city drivers and will mostly use it for carting around the kids and long trips - we have noticed diesel prices going up up up and live in suburbia, where only a few stations carry diesel. However, I can't handle watching the gas gauge trickle down on a V8, 450. But do worry, that long term the diesel could be a mistake for a central car for the family.

This is the only large SUV we like - would the diesel benefits outweigh the risk ? Anyone has history on why diesel keeps rising w. regular gasoline, will the ratios stay in place ?

Thoughts, input, etc ?

I pick up my GL320 CDI tomorrow, that makes my opinion pretty clear

 

Get the CDI, it is unreal.........good power and a lot better mileage.

 

I got a chance to compare the GL to an X5 in person a few days ago.

Hands down the GL wins by a long shot compared to the X5! Beyond comfortable is an understatement, the sound system was incredible, navigation was ingenious, tvs in the head rests were sweet, impressed by all the power features, all rows had great leg room even for adults, and the styling was classy! I completely agree with dferg476, the GL IS unreal!

just drove a 08 gl 320cdi last nite.....good first impression.....dealer trying to work out extended test drive for me. driving 4 or 5 miles isnt enough for me..

 

I prefer the CDI but you might find there is no reason to go with a preowned because of the demand and scarcity of the the CDI keep s the price up. The 450 is much easier to find and you would ave thousands.
