dashboard cluster?

I just recently purchased an old GE 280, shipping back to the states and is currently seeking a newer possibly interchangeable dash board? One that has miles per hour instead of kilos per hour, brighter lighting, better trim, more illuminating buttons. Can anybody help or either point me into the right direction? Really appreciate it. Enjoying my G.

Hi.

If you are referring to the possibility of replacing your dashboard with that of the W463 forget it. It cannot be installed without a lot of modification of your interior and in the end it would look no better than a botch job.

But to have a brighter, nicer dashboard, you can:

1) Buy a speedometer in miles from somebody in the UK. There are loads of Gs being broken for spares at the moment so that should not be difficult.

2) You can also buy second-hand all the self-illuminating switches from later W460s.

3) You can very easily change the bulbs that illuminate the speedo, the rev counter and the combined instrument. The factory fitted ones are 1.2w but you can easily find 2w OSRAMs and these really make a difference.

4) Get yourself a decent later style 460 steering wheel. It's rim is slightly smaller and thicker.

5) Finally get yourself a wood-kit. Some Gs from 1986 to 1989 had this nice option.

A good place to try to source this is our forum:

The pictures below are just an example of how better can you truck look if you do these modifications.

Good luck
