wheel spacers
 

Need feedback on putting spacers on my 1994 e320,Is this a good idea? I just want to do it for looks only,was told that vibration might occur.
Has anyone done this before?

IMO, a bad idea, a very bad idea.
By modifying the original track specification with spacers, get ready for:
failed wheel bearings,
poor steering response,
awful handling,
rapid tire wear,
tire rubbing,

I agree 100% PLUS
since this alters the STEERING OFFSET it adversely effects stability (pulls left or right) under ABS operation.

I have spacers on my 2002 E320 wagon so I can use W211 rims. No problems whatsoever. I also have spacers on my 993 track car. No problems whatsoever. Spacers are conventional and have been used for decades in many extreme applications.

I would not recommend spacers unless they are only a few mm thick and even then why would you need them?

They negate a lot of the engineering work done by the manufacturer to homolgate the vehicle. This includes geometry, bearings, brakes, tyre wear, steering feel / kickback, wheel stud stress etc etc etc.
Dependent upon vehicle geometry, and how much the spacers alter this, you MAY or MAY NOT have a real problem when you come to use your ABS "in anger".
They will also negate your warranty and possibly your insurance. The safety systems of the car have been modified!!

"Racing" applications don't usually use ABS, ASR, ESP etc. Its not the spacer that is the problem. Its the effect they have on vehicle geometry. Racing professionals know what they are doing.
