I have a '97 E420 with 130,000 miles and was told the valve cover gaskets should be replaced. Cost estimate seemed high to me - $550 from an independent shop I use. Always thought that was a pretty simple procedure, although I have never done it on a MB. Anything unusual, diificult, or need to watch out for on this model? Suggestions?

Undo the covers install new gaskets and while you are in there check the oil guides.
Several of our members on benzworld.org and mbworld.org have had the noisy lifter tap and solved it with this diy.If all you need of the pictoroal diy is the valve cover info,Get it done.

Thanks. Looks prety straightforward. I called a MB dealer to double check and they said $680 with 4.2 hours of labor!
