Upgrading Nav system software in a 2004

I have a 2004 E320 which I bought used with a 2004 Nav system DVD in it. I just purchased the new 2008 Nav DVD, but the system cannot read it until I do a system software upgrade. Is there any way to do that myself to save money? The dealer wants $160, and I'd like to avoid spending all that.
