Default transmission maintenance schedule

Please advise:

What is the proper maintenance schedule for the transmission in the 1997 E420?

The dealer indicated that no maintenance is required if there is no problem. The fluid and filter are changed when shifting problems happen. I was not happy with the dealer's information as it did not make good sense. It would be too late then to service the transmission!!!

I would appreciate if any one in this great forum can verify it. Thanks in advance...

I suggest you to get a Factory Mercedes Manual.

It has all service and maintenance instructions, step by step.

A great help, hope this will help you.

Even with the zero maintenace trnasmission you shouldn't go more than 60,00 miles between services.

Thanks Gents...

I asked the dealer again last week and they were very confident that there is no maintenance required for the transmission. I tried to look for the transmission type under the car and could not find it.

Can any one tell me where I can find it???
