Transmission fluid check

Transmission fluid check
OK, here's a stupid question: I'm trying to find the dipstick for the transmission fluid. Is there a dipstick, or some other way to check the level? I have a 1994 E320. Thanks in advance for any help!

RE: Transmission fluid check
How do you check it properly?
I have seen the mechanic start the engine and put it into D. Then someone was inside the car to brake it and then checked the at dipstick.
Is that the proper way??
THanks.

RE: Transmission fluid check
I talked with an MB mechanic recently and he said the proper way is to idle the car in neutral or Park and check the dipstick. If it is in "D" drive, the fluid will circulate already and will not give a proper reading.
Is this correct? If you check the dipstick, it says "for MB qualified mechanics only."

RE: Transmission fluid check
I am trying very hard not to laugh here.
First, no one seems to know about the one-time-use-only snap-off plastic cap. MB sells it for a dollar or so. It may be yellow, it may be red, but the color does not matter.
Second....no one seems to know there is no traditional dip-stick, and yet keep giving suggestions. (MB sells the dipstick for at or around $65.)
What a riot! I could die from laughing.

Oh....did I forget to mention that MB tranny takes Syn oil?
Also...it is norhtworthy to mention that --
to check engine oil level, you do so when the engine is cold, but to check the transmission fluid level, you do so when the transmission is not cold.

RE: Transmission fluid check
??? the guy who started the thread (grogman) has a 1994 E320 which has the traditional A/T dipstick located at the engine bay. The 1997 and newer E-Class (w210) are those without the traditional dipstick. They have the throw-away type one time use dipstick.
Am I correct??
