Stage 1 Engine Modification for E320

Hi,
I'm new here and I come from BMW background. I've an E320 2002 as a project car and I want to start stage 1 engine modification. I'm looking for a high performance exhaust header and air intake. Do you think K&N serves my purpose? Please help coming up with the best in the market.

The fresh air intake with the oem filter is the best cool air intake to retain.Headers are not going to provide a great deal of increase.A resonator delete or performance will pick up a bit of torque.Mb has extracted the most they can out of the little v6 and any real improvements are big ones and big money.Supercharger.
Get some nice 18 in rims, fatter tires, tint the windows, eibach lowering springs, bilstein sport shocks. The m112 is not a motor that is cheap to mod.Stay away from k/n

Looks like you are a big fan of Mercedes designing team:DI do not think that changing theresonator modification will be good at all, you might lose back pressure. I beleive we can still do something for the E320. I'll have to dig more.

I take it you want to keep it luxury at the same time right? If not just start a weight reducing. :DIm just kidding. How much are you willing to spend? If money is no limit the try Brabus, Renntec, Lorensor, Wald, Clarsson or any of the major Benz tunning companies

Loosing back pressure on the m112 is not a bad thing, the exhaust pulses of the firing order line up pretty well and the resonator delete gives it a little growl and a few more ft lb of torque down low.

The idea is to have the E320 silent modified, and on steps. The customer is not willing to through thousdans at once. So if we start by a really good exhaust, intake and ECU tuning he will be happy with the modified noise, drivability and added torque. What do you think?

I think (as in tuning programs I've seen on cable), that a lot of money can be spent with cat back tuned exhaust, computer chips and intake mods-all to give just a few ponies here & there along with some noise squack. If you want to get serious about modding these newer style engines (by "newer" I'm talking about post '90 ECU), the REAL gains come from either supercharging or turbocharging. Both have advantages and disadvantages, although I've always favored superchargers. Anything else are just mock mods wherein males can play oneupmanship games with each other. And don't even think about ruining an expensive MB engine with nitrous-let the young males continue to trash their rice burners with that concept.

It's also been suggested that some model MB's can benefit greatly by going with a more powerful MB engine that still works with your OE drivetrain. For example, I was looking at the differences between my 3 liter 300TE (wagon) engine versus the 300CE six cylinder, dual cam motor. Mine at @177hp and the M104.980 @228hp-both the same year in '92. Holy crap, Batman! Would be cheaper for me to find a solid M104.980 and swap out engines, rather than go the supercharger route. However, nothing like the sound of a supercharger kicking in and I would get even more ultimate gain. My old engine would have to be thoroughly rebuilt though to take the added ponies of a under hood supercharger. In the 'ideal world', take the M104.980 engine and supercharge it!

Yeah, and I totally agree with ohlord about MB expertise in this matter. You have to remember that MB has been in successful racing for over 50yrs. They don't just make stodgy cars, they can make them zoom as well.

I have seen many K&N air filters melted in the air box. (the boxes that sit right above the valve covers). Go big or go home. Supercharge!
