Default Speedometer

1989 300E / 70,500 miles!

Speedo needlewobbled a bit at times (a few miles per hour) and would last for up to an hour but would then operate perfectly for the rest of the day. The cable or speedo did not make any noise when the needleoscilated. I had previously disconnected the speedocable months ago when the cluster was pulled out for new instrument cluster bulbs. I was careful to reconnect the cable and everything worked fine until just recently. Maybe not related? All othergauges work fine. Any thoughts?

Happens from time to time, not all the time.Mostly when you first drive the car, not later in the day. That is why it is hard to figure out what is going on.

I actually have the exact similar problem...I have another speedometer that I am going to test on it to see if possibly the speedometer cable got stretched...

I attempted to install it, but I wasn't sure exactly how to remove it from the transmisson....the warmer weather seems to not make the needle jump as much, so I might wait a few more weeks...
